Message of a 17" wheel in 1st gear, working the wheel back and forth. Viewing the video of prop shaft, I think the back and forth rotation of mine is about half the amount of yours. Does your video show just the differential freeplay, or is there some drive axle movement included?

Yes you could be unlucky enough to get mulitple diffs with worn ring and pinions, or otherwise worn parts causing the slop. Instead of buying another, I would take the diffs I have now and have a good driveline shop rebuild you one good piece.

I rebuilt the differential, the drive axles, rebulit a 2pc OEM prop shaft, and have a new 98+ spec trans. You will never remove all the slop. My timing mod creates a smoother the on/off throttle transition, so the slop does not bang back and forth.

The timing change helps not only at low speeds, but also when cruising 20-40 mph at light load throttles. Getting off the gas while cruising at 35 mph used to result in a mechanical noise as the driveline parts went from one end of their freeplay to the other. Now that same clunk is totally muted because the engine braking, which caused the clunk, has softened and become more of a 'coasting down' feeling.

Before the timing changes, my car was very unpleasant to drive. In order to avoid the clunking, I had to be very careful when getting on and off the throttle, modulating with a light foot on the gas pedal. After the mod, it is like a different car. It is smooth up and down through the gears, showing little, if any, tendency to buck or jerk. Powering up through the gears, it feels like second and third gears are waiting to pull the gearsets into the next gear. It is that smooth.
